WW1 Memorial Plaque
To- JOHN.NICOL.FERGUSON.PIXLEY.
The recipient was the 2nd son of Colonel Francis W Pixley.VD.FSA.JP & was educated at both Eton college & Merton College. He was land owner in East Africa prior to the outbreak of WW1 & originally enlisted in to the East African mounted rifles as a trooper. He was a friend of Denys Finch-Hatton & was involved in the action at Longdingo. He was commissioned in to the 4th Grenadier Guards & went on to be recommended for the Military Cross. He was killed in action by sniper fire 12-10-1917 age 29 & is buried in Artillery wood cemetery.
