Edward Ernest Collins from Islington was born 29-7-1862 & enlisted in to the Royal Navy as a boy in 1878 & served onboard HMS Phiomel during the Benin River campaign of 1894. He later went on to serve onboard HMS Niobe during the Boer war & is also entitled to the QSA. He was discharged in 1905 & went on to serve with the RFR. One of 170 Benin River 1894 clasps to this ship out of a total issue of 530 to Royal Navy recipients.
