John Geoffrey James of Morpeth was educated at Morpeth Grammar school & prior to the outbreak of WW1 he worked in the estate office at Bothal. He joined the 7th battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers on the outbreak of WW1 and first landed in France 21-4-1915. After service in France he was commissioned in to the Border regiment and went on to serve in the Middle East & Mediterranean. He returned to the UK at the wars end & returned to his old job. Before going to work in Manilla for almost 20 years. He passed away in Morpeth in 1939 & is buried in Morpeth churchyard.
