GVR Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O) GVR WW1 Military Cross (MC), WW1 Pair with M.I.D Oakleaves & 1939-45 War Medal

Geoffrey Neville Kingsford first arrived in Egypt 30-12-1915 but his claim for a 1914-15 star was refused on the grounds of his late arrival. He was M.I.D for services in France in the London gazette 4-1-1917 & this was followed by the award of the Military Cross in the London gazette 10-1-1917. His final decoration was the Distinguished service order in the London gazette 3-6-1919 & all awards were for service with the 67th field company of the Royal Engineers. The citation for the award of the Military Cross states, For conspicuous gallantry in action. He & a N.C.O went out six times at a distance of about 100 yards across the open under heavy fire, carrying & placing charges which were successfully fired. He has born in Brentford 19-6-1892 & was a former scholar at Malvern college. He relinquished his commission in 1919 & travelled for work extensively in the inter war years. travelling to both Canada & America. He married in Washington DC in 1922. He had returned to england by the outbreak of WW2 & is recorded on the 1939 register as a civillian Garrison Engineer living in Hungerford. He died age 76 in 1958 whilst living in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
