Albert Edward Peel was born in 1894 & was a steel riveter living at 133 Carlisle Street, Sheffield. When he enlisted in to the York & Lancaster regiment 2-9-1914. He was transferred to the Royal Naval Division 8-9-14. He was captured with most of the battalion at the defence of Antwerp in October 1914 & was interned for the duration of the war at Groningen. He was allowed home on leave in June 1917 at at this point he gave his home address as 15 Kirk Street, Sheffield. He returned from captivity in 1919 & by this stage his intended place of residence was 291 Darnall Road, Sheffield. His 1914 star was issued in 1919 to this address & the August to November clasp was issued the following year. He returned to his bith place in Leicestershire in the years inbetween the two wars & passed away in Leicester in 1954 aged 60.
The clasp on the ribbon of the recipients 1914 star is a period tailors copy but the recipients entitlement to the clasp is confirmed on the roll.
