William James lacey from Kent enlisted in to the Royal Horse Artillery in 1908 & first landed in France 5-8-1914 just one day after war was declared. He was wounded by gunshot to the left leg in August 1916 & spent nine months in hospital in the UK before returning to the front. He left the army at the wars end & when he applied for the issue of his medals in 1921 he was serving with the metropolitan police.
