A very nice family group to a father & son from Sunderland / North Shields
1) Mercantile Marine pair
To- HENRY.J.DEFTY.
Henry John Defty was born in Sunderland 1859 & was a master mariner. He served as a 1st class engineer with the Mercantile Marine during WW1 & his pair of medals were issued to him at 31 Milton Terrace, North Shields 30-4-1921.

William Defty was born in Sunderland & lived in North Shields. He originally enlisted in to the 28th Tyneside Scottish reserve battalion but went to France serving with the 11th battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers. He sadly died of wounds in France & Flanders 2-8-1916 & was 25 years of age at the time of his death. He is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Henry John & Margret Defty of 31 Milton Terrace, North Shields & is buried in Heilly station cemetery at Mericourt-L'Abbe.
