WW1 1914-15 Trio & Memorial Plaque

Richard Frederick Newton was born In London & enlisted at Aldershot. He enlisted in to the reserve regiment of cavalry on the outbreak of war & was initially gazetted as a temporary Lieutenant in the 9th service battalion of the Yorkshire regiment. He however refused his commission as he did not wish to leave the cavalry. When the RRC was disbanded & was posted to the 2nd Black Watch in June 1915 & first landed in France 13-7-1915. He was in action with the battalion at the battle of Loos in September 1915 when he was part of the bombing party that captured five lines of German trenches & all men were recommended for promotion or a gallantry award. He embarked for Mesopotamia 5-12-1915 & was involved in the action 7-1-1916 & again 21-1-1916 where he was sadly killed in action. He has no known grave & as such he is commemorated on the Basra memorial. He has a lengthy entry & a photograph in in De Ruvignys roll of honour.
The trio was originally sold as part of the Harry Wallace collection in 2018 & has since been re-united with the recipients uniquely named memorial plaque,
