Alexander Maitland first landed in France 10-5-1915 serving with the 5th battalion of the Cameron Highlanders & was wounded on the first day of the battle of Loos 25-9-1915. He was commissioned in to the 9th battalion of the Highland Light Infantry 19-11-1916 & was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 20-5-1917. He has no known grave & as such he is commemorated in the Arras memorial. He was an old boy of Allan Glen's high school, Glasgow & has a lengthy entry in the Marquis De Rivigny's roll of honour.
