Clyde Helm was a gentelmans tailor with a business in Newcastle upon Tyne. He was commissioned in to the 1st battalion of the Border Regiment in March 1917 & first landed in France 28-5-1917. He was awared the Military Cross in the London gazette 16-9-1918 with the following citation.
For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty. As a battalion signalling officer he performed his duties with energy & skill & in company with his signallers & the rest of battalion headquarters he held positions under heavy fighting with great courage & tenacity, cleverly posting two Lewis guns & accounting for many of the enemy.
He is recorded in a number of newspaper articles as the third son of Mr & Mrs Thomas Helm of 1 Lindow square, Lancaster & died in Gloucestershire in 1962 leaving an estate valued at just over £600.
