Edwin Nickerson from Grimsby was commissioned in to the Royal Engineers in March 1915 & first landed in France 14-9-1915. He was awarded the Military Cross for services in France in the London gazette 1-1-1918 & went on to be discharged with a silver war badge & a disability pension later the same year. He applied for the issue of his campaign medals in 1921 whilst living on Dudley Road in Grimsby. However his silver war badge was issued to him at 423 Cleethorpes road Grimsby. He was a well known citizen of Grimsby & he was part of a family of local coal merchants with businesses in the town. He was the Son of Shadrack Fitzherbert Nickerson and Clara Ada Nickerson of 423 Cleethorpes Road, Grimsby & his brother was killed on the first day of the Somme serving with the Grimsby Chums. The Imperial war museum hold a superb portrait photographic image of the recipient in uniform that was published in the bond of sacrifice.
