John Rae Mitchell from Dundee served with the 2nd battalion of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on the North West Frontier of India from 1935 & went on to serve with the 5th battalion.The 5th battalion became the 91st Anti-Tank regiment of the Royal Artillery in 1939 & the recipient was serving with this unit when he was killed in action in North West Europe 10-7-1944. He was 35 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in St Manvieu War cemetery at Cheux. He is recorded by the C.W.G.C as the late son of John & Jane Mitchell & the late husband of Jean Mitchell of Dundee. He is also entitled to the IGS 1908 With North West Frontier 1935 clasp along with the 1939-45 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal & 1939-45 War Medal for his services in WW2. His widow applied for the issue of his WW2 Campaign medals in 1949 & these were issued to an address in Dundee.
