James Douglas Stobart was born in 1884 & attended Oxford University. He was the spare man for the 1904 Oxford crew & the Oxford V Cambridge university boat race. He was commissioned in to the Hampshire Yeomanry in WW1 & served overseas with them both before & after they became the 15th battalion of the Hampshire Regiment. He was discharged at the wars end & did not apply for the issue of his campaign medals until 1928 whilst living in Sussex. He passed away at Wyatts farm, Sussex in 1970 & when his estate was valued for probate it was valued at £97261.
