The recipient served with the 2nd battalion & was commandant at Randfontein 1900 to 1902. He first landed in France in October 1916 & went on to serve with the army school of musketry. He was twice M.I.D for services in France in the London gazette 18-12-1917 & 27-12-1918 & this was followed by the award of the O.B.E in the London gazette 1-1-1919.
