Charles William Dutton was born in 1881 & was a resident of Didsbury when he enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery in 1902. He first landed overseas in theatre of war 3 (Egypt) 1-4-1915 serving with B-180th Brigade R.F.A. He was awarded the divisional gallantry card from Major General Hickey commanding the 16th Irish Division for his gallantry in 1917 & this was followed by the award of the DCM for gallantry in France & this was published in the London gazette 3-9-1919 with the following citation.
For continuous good work & devotion to duty. He served with the battery in all the engagements and actions March to September 1918. His thorough reliability has been of the greatest assistance in all times of stress, and his devotion to duty has been a shining example to the personnel of his battery.
EF/NEF & Complete with the recipients orginal divisional gallantry card from the 16th Irish Division, the recipients character & discharge certificates, original copy of the recipients citation dated 1931,birth & death certificates, envelope for the certificates, portrait photograph of the recipient as taken by a photographer in Aldershot, six photographic postcard images of the recipient in uniform that all have details as written by the recipient on the reverse of each image. Along with copy MIC & London gazette details.
