Harold Everard Hambro was the son of Sir Edward Alexander Hambro KCVO, JP, DL. He was born 20-1-1876 & was educated at Eaton. He was commissioned in to the Kent Artillery Militia 19-9-1897 & became a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery (Regular Army) 16-2-1901. He retired as a Captain in March 1914 but was recalled on the outbreak of war. He first landed in France 4-9-1914 & in 1917 was promoted to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel with the remount service. He was appointed as the deputy director of remounts 15-7-1919 & was awarded the C.B.E in the kings birthday honours list 3-6-1919. He remained on the reserve of officers until January 1931 when he was appointed as the director of Hambro's bank. He held this position until 1945 along with being a JP for Suffolk & a high sheriff of the county. During WW2 he commanded his local Home Guard unit & passed away at his family seat of Coldham Hall, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk in 1952.
The group is GVF or better & mounted as worn. The C.B.E is EF & is free from any enamel chips or damage & is housed in its original fitted case of issue from Garrard's.
