After serving in South Africa during the Boer War the recipient went on to land in France 5-10-1914 & was awarded the immediate M.S.M for services in France in the London gazette 9-11-1916 & this was followed by by the award of a mention in despatches also for services in France & this was published in the London gazette 18-5-1917. The award of the August to November clasp to the recipients 1914 star is confirmed on his MIC
