John Croft was born in Dundee & was living in Bradford when he enlisted in Bradford. He first landed in theatre of war 2B Gallipoli / The Balkans 24-9-1915 serving with the 1st battalion of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 1-7-1916 on the first day of the battle of the Somme. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial & is recorded by the C.W.G.C as the late son of John & Catherine Croft of Idle, Bradford.
