Robert Gerald Hopwood was educated at Eton college & went on to be commissioned in to the Rifle Brigade. He was A.D.C to the Governor of South Australia & first landed in France 18-10-1914. He was attached to the Royal Flying Corps as a pilot & was sadly killed in action serving as a pilot with 70 squadron in France 24-8-1916 age 31. He is commemorated on the Arras flying services memorial & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Col. Edward Robert Gregge Hopwood and Brenda Hopwood, of 28, Upper Grosvenor St., London. This was the families London home as opposed the the family seat of Hopwood Hall in Hopwood.
