Harold William Tomlinson was born in Chester 4-4-83 & was commissioned in to the Royal Engineers 21-12-1901. He served on the North West Frontier in 1908 & was awarded the 1911 Delhi Durbar medal whilst serving with No-3 Coy of the 1st King George's Own Sappers & Miners. On the outbreak of WW1 he was sent to Mesopotamia 7-11-1914 & was captured at the fall of Kut-Al-Maira 26-4-1916 & spent the rest of the war as a prisoner of war. He was twice M.I.D whilst a P.O.W in Mesopotamia in the London gazette 19-10-1916 & 13-7-1916. He remained with the Royal Engineers after his release from captivity in December 1918. He went on to be awarded both the 1935 Silver Jubilee & 1937 Coronation Medals. He retired as a Colonel 27-4-1939. But was recalled from the reserve on the outbreak of WW2. He spent all of his WW2 service in the UK & passed away 30-12-1964 in Totnes.
