Percy Hastings Leach was born in Redditch 1885 & was educated at Haywardsfield / Wycliffe college. He was working as a mining engineer in Rhodesia on the outbreak of war & was commissioned in to the 2nd South Midland Brigade of the R.F.A 15-11-1915. He was wounded in France 4-12-1916 & went on to be awarded the Military Cross in the London gazette 4-2-1918 for his actions in December 1917 with the following citation.
For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty as a forward observation officer during four days of operations. He made daring reconnaissance, and sent back valuable information. He and his party attacked an enemy machine gun & captured it with six prisoners.
He returned home to the UK in June 1919 and relinquished his commission 30-9-1921 & passed away in Devon in 1958 age 72.
