George Wilson was one of the original members of the 23rd service battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers / 4th Tyneside Scottish. He was born in Newcastle on Tyne & enlisted in Gateshead. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 1-7-1916 on the first day of the battle of the Somme. He has no known grave and as such he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
