Sidney Gurton Spencer from Wandsworth Common London was educated at St.Pauls School London & London University. He was a pre war member of the inns of court O.T.C and was commissioned in to the Berkshire Regiment at the outbreak of war. He was promoted to Captain in June 1915 & was serving as the Machine Gun officer with the 5th battalion when he was killed in action in France & Flanders 13-10-1915 during the battle of Loos. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Loos memorial & is recorded by the CWGC as the late 23 year old son of Major William Arthur Spencer.M.B.E & Emma Spencer of 30A Earlsfield Road, Wandsworth Common, London.
