Ernest Wray first enlisted in to the 8th battlion of the Border regiment 30-12-1914 & first landed in France 26-9-1915. He is listed in the Cumberland news as having been wounded in France 2-12-1916 and this also states that he was a resident of Manchester. He was discharged with a silver war badge due to his wounds 19-4-1917.
