William Hayward of 47 Alexandra Road, Burley, Leeds was reported as missing 17-1-1918 whilst serving with the 10th service battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment. He was later confirmed as a prisoner of war in German hands and at the wars end the German authorities reported that he had died in captivity 31-1-1918. Soldiers died in the great war states that he was both born & enlisted in Leeds & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Arras memorial. He was 41 years of age at the time of his death & is recorded by the C.W.G.C as the late husband of Myrtilla Hayward of 47 Alexandra Road, Burley, Leeds.
