William Cross was born in Louth, Lincolnshire & enlisted in to the army in Armley near Leeds. He first landed in France 5-10-1914 serving with number one company of the 7th division A.S.C. He sadly died in France 6-2-1915 whilst attached to the Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry. He was 32 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in Merville Communal cemetery. He is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Askew & Sarah Cross of Great Carlton Lincolnshire & the late husband of Elizabeth cross of 25 Parliament road, Armley, Leeds.

The recipient is entitled to the August to November clasp for the ribbon of his 1914 star & this is confirmed on his MIC. Sadly the actual clasp is missing from the ribbon of the medal.
