Charles Henry Boyle was born in Northampton and enlisted in to the army in London 31-10-1899 age 18. He first landed in France 17-3-1915 & was awarded the DCM in the London gazette 1-1-1918 with the following citation.
For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty. While firing in support of an Infantry attack, His trench mortars were very heavily shelled by the enemy. When two gun pits were blown in he cleared them and got the mortars in to action again, and continued to fire with the greatest success. He showed splendid coolness & courage on this & many other occasions.
He was attached to the 35th Trench Mortar battery at the time of his award & the London gazette states that he was a resident of Kingston Hill & a local newspaper states he was from Ripley in Derbyshire.
NEF & Mounted as worn. The 1914-15 star & victory medal have been neatly gilded / gold plated. Complete with copy service papers, MIC & London gazette details
