A nice family group to the two Askham brothers
1) WW1 Pair
To- CAPT.W.ASKHAM.
William.Askham was originally commissioned in to the 6th battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment but transferred to the Army Cyclist Corps before proceeding overseas. He was killed in action in France & Flanders 11-4-1918 & is commemorated on the Ploegsteert memorial. He is also entitled to the Territorial Force War Medal.
2) WW1 Victory Medal
To- 2-LIEUT.S.T.ASKHAM
The recipient was a member of the 9th battalion of the Suffolk regiment & was a first class professional cricketer. He played five first class matches for Northamptonshire during the county championship of 1914 & is recorded as having a bright future as both a bat & bowler. However he was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders age 19 22-8-1916 & is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial.
Both men are recorded by the CWGC as being the late sons of Thomas & Ada Askham of 38 Castle Street, Wellinborough & are both listed with images in Northampton & the great war.
