DCM, MM, 1914-15 TRIO & MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO,24989.PTE.D.WALLER.2ND & 2/4TH.W.RID.R. PTE WALLER ENLISTED AGE 16 AND LANDED IN FRANCE 18-8-1915 WITH THE 2/4TH BATTALION. HE WAS AWARDED THE DCM IN THE LONDON GAZETTE 30-10-1918 & THE MM IN THE LONDON GAZETTE 13-9-1918, HE SADLY DIED OF WOUNDS F&F 22-10-1918. SOLDIERS DIED IN THE GREAT WAR STATES THAT HE WAS BORN IN OUTBRIDGE, YORKS & ENLISTED IN HUDDERSFIELD WHILST LIVING IN WEST BOWLING, BRADFORD. HE LIVED AT 22 BOMBAY STREET, WEST BOWLING HE IS BURIED UNDER A CWGC HEADSTONE IN BOWLING CEMETERY. THE DCM CITATION STATES, For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty during an attack.He set a splendid example of courage & determination under heavy fire.By getting round with two sections in the rear of the enemy & clearing him out he enabled a village to be occupied.Whilst consolidating he was wounded by a sniper but refused to be moved for fear of drawing fire on the postion. DCM NAMED TO 2ND BATTALION & MM NAMED TO 2/4TH BATTALION. COMPLETE WITH TWO ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS, CAP BADGE, SHOULDER TITLE & EXTENSIVE RESEARCH DETAILS.
