GVIR 1ST TYPE MILITARY MEDAL (MM),1939-45 STAR, AFRICA STAR, DEFENCE MEDAL & 1939-45 WAR MEDAL TO, 3908926.L-CPL.A.DAVIES.SOUTH WALES.BORDERERS. THE RECIPIENT ENLISTED 20-4-1935 & SERVED WITH THE 1ST BATTALION HE WAS TAKEN PRISONER OF WAR AT TOBRUK BY THE GERMANS & THEN HANDED OVER TO THE ITALIANS. HE WAS SENT TO TARHUNA & THEN TRIPOLI. HE EMARKED FOR ITALY WITH 200 OTHER SICK & WOUNDED PRISONERS OF WAR BUT ESCAPED BY JUMPING OVERBOARD & SWIMMING ASHORE. HE LANDED AT KORBA & WAS HANDED OVER TO A FRENCH OFFICER & DETAINED AT TUNIS. HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) IN THE LONDON GAZETTE 4-5-1943 FOR SERVICES WHILST A PRISONER OF WAR. HE IS THOUGHT TO BE ARTHUR GLYNDWR DAVIES WHO WAS BORN IN 1911 & DIED IN 1985 AT PONTYPRIDD GLAMORGANSHIRE. COMPLETE WITH LONDON GAZETTE DETAILS AND DETAILS FROM THE REGIMENTAL MUSEUM INCLUDING A COPY NEWSPAPER CUTTING & PHOTOGRAPH FROM THE DAILY MIRROR 1943 WHEN THE RECIPIENT WENT TO BUCKINGHAM PALACE TO BE INVESTED WITH HIS MM.SMALL OFFICIAL CORRECTION TO THE LETTERS LES OF WALES.
